Carson City Schools Foundation Awards $10,300 in Grants

Carson City, Nev. (Nov. 18, 2024) — The Carson City School District, on behalf of the Carson City Schools Foundation (CCSF), is pleased to announce mini and department grant winners for Fall 2024. Each semester, CCSF gives back to educators and students alike. This last semester, the foundation awarded a total of $10,300 in mini-grants as well as grants for a department, school or grade-level project(s).

In total, CCSF has contributed nearly $19,000 in 2024 and more than $164,000 to students and educators since 2017.

The Fall 2024 mini-grant winners include the following alphabetically by school:

  • Alisa Kuniya, Carson High School, $300 to purchase digital cameras for emerging artists.
  • Kendar Tuttle, Carson High School, $300 for t-shirts for Early Childhood Education students.
  • Tammy Borremans, Carson Middle School, $300 for kitchen racks, a hydroponic herb garden system, canvas grow bags and herb garden seeds for the culinary program.
  • Brittany Jung, Carson Middle School, $300 for Color Guard supplies and membership fees.
  • Brittany Kane, Empire Elementary School, $150 for indoor cooperative board games and outdoor equipment.
  • Isabel Manzano, Empire Elementary School, $300 for Brian Bins/STEM Bins materials for exploring concepts in design, physics and problem solving.
  • Laura Ricks, Empire Elementary School, $300 to purchase journals and lettering pens for the writing recognition program.
  • Ashley Cosens, Fremont Elementary School, $300 for foldable music stands.
  • Muriel Maiden, Fremont Elementary School, $150 for mini basketballs for kindergarten and first graders.
  • Ruth Torres, Fritsch Elementary School, $300 for school supplies and flexible seating.
  • Daniel Echebarria, Pioneer Academy, $300 for supplies to support activities for students with ADHD and other neurodivergent issues.
  • Lindsey Blei, Seeliger Elementary School, $300 for Art Club supplies.
  • Toni Nielsen, Seeliger Elementary School, $300 for noise canceling headphones and pencil sharpeners for the Gifted and Talented Education classrooms.
  • Holly Weber, Seeliger Elementary School, $300 for cameras and t-shirts for the writing club.

The Fall 2024 school or department grant winners include the following alphabetically by department, school or grade-level projects:

  • Bethel Jeanne Baglin, Carson High School, $2,000 for cameras and lenses for the Publications class.
  • Sarah Bennett, Eagle Valley Middle School, $300 National Junior Honor Society Chapter renewal fees.
  • Alisa Kuniya, Carson High School, $2,000 for art supplies and snacks to support the Carson High Art Club.
  • Emily Isom and Becky Ritter, Eagle Valley Middle School, $600 for cheerleading equipment.
  • Amy Riddle, Eagle Valley Middle School, $2,000 for a hoop greenhouse to teach plant biology, nutrition, sustainable gardening practices and ecosystem dynamics.
  • Katie Hollowell, Empire Elementary School, $1,500 for Math curriculum read-alouds for Kindergarten classes.

CCSF is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to promoting community involvement and investment in the public schools of Carson City. This project is one of the many results of the “Empower Carson City 2027″ Strategic Plan – a five-year strategic plan for extraordinary schools built by the community of Carson City.

CCSF was created to increase student achievement through philanthropic investment and involvement. Established by the Carson City School District’s Board of Trustees, the foundation promotes education programs that traditional funding sources may not be able to reach.
