Carson City, Nev. (Feb. 27, 2025) — The Carson City School District, on behalf of the Carson City Schools Foundation (CCSF), is pleased to announce mini and department grant winners for Spring 2025. Each semester, CCSF gives back to educators and students alike. This last semester, the foundation awarded a total of $10,550 in mini-grants as well as grants for a department, school or grade-level project(s).
Of the 45 applications received, only 26 grants were awarded. In total, CCSF contributed nearly $19,000 in 2024 and nearly $175,000 to students and educators since 2017.
The Spring 2025 mini-grant winners include the following alphabetically by school:
- Donna Harker, Bordewich Bray Elementary School, $250 to purchase rhythmic ball bouncing sets.
- Nick Jacques, Carson High School, $300 for small ensemble music for his honors wind ensemble students.
- Karen McCraw, Carson High School, $300 to purchase acrylic painting and project supplies.
- Mark Kuniya, Carson Middle School, $300 for the Chomp Saw Maker bundle for computer science innovations.
- Hollie Silva, Carson Middle School, $300 for equipment for the eighth grade chess club.
- Ralph Myrehn, Eagle Valley Middle School, $300 for snacks for board game club particpants.
- Amy Riddle, Eagle Valley Middle School, $300 for project supplies for the school’s Green Biz Kidz program.
- Cassidy Paul, Empire Elementary School, $300 for microphones and microphone cables.
- Laura Ricks, Empire Elementary School, $250 for display cases for Art and STEM and STEM Tank engineering projects.
- Erika Laycox, Fremont Elementary School, $300 for flexible seating options and calm corner materials in the classroom.
- Maria Shiffer, Fremont Elementary School, $300 for interactive stations and snacks/refreshments for Family STEAM Night.
- Tiffany Gelbaum, Fritsch Elementary School, $300 for classroom headphones.
- January Hurlbert, Mark Twain Elementary School, $300 for high interest bilingual chapter books for third grade students.
- John Corbitt, Pioneer Academy, $300 for Ball-A-Vis-X equipment and exercises.
- Sue Moulden-Horton, Pioneer Academy, $300 for tetherball set-up and court.
- Shawn Schneider, Pioneer Academy, $300 for community-based instruction project: helping students purchase meals and services.
- Kristin Steinkraus, Pioneer Academy, $300 for materials for student engineering projects.
- Brenna White, Seeliger Elementary School, $300 for snacks for Family Math Night events.
- Jennifer Williams, Seeliger Elementary School, $300 for easels and erasers for white boards.
- Rachel Croft, districtwide, $300 for easels and erasers for white boards.
- Jennifer Williams, Seeliger Elementary School, $300 for Video Capture Card and Nintendo Switch console.
The Spring 2025 school or department grant winners include the following alphabetically by department, school or grade-level projects:
- Tearra Bobula, all six elementary schools, $2,000 for supplies to support 3D printing for student in grades K-5 in elementary schools in Carson City.
- Mirjam Caster, Carson Middle School, $2,000 for large print books.
- Emily Isom, Eagle Valley Middle School, $500 for self-publish science children’s books.
- Christine Wagner, Fritsch Elementary School, $1,000 for recess harmony: sports equipment for conflict-free play.
- Sarah Santos, Student Support Services, $500 for the Step-up Cafe.
CCSF is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to promoting community involvement and investment in the public schools of Carson City. This project is one of the many results of the “Empower Carson City 2027″ Strategic Plan – a five-year strategic plan for extraordinary schools built by the community of Carson City.
CCSF was created to increase student achievement through philanthropic investment and involvement. Established by the Carson City School District’s Board of Trustees, the foundation promotes education programs that traditional funding sources may not be able to reach.
