Foundation Awards $9,048 in Grants to Support Students, Educators

Carson City, Nev. (Oct. 13, 2025) — The Carson City School District, on behalf of the Carson City Schools Foundation (CCSF), is pleased to announce mini and department grant winners for Fall 2025. Each semester, CCSF gives back to educators and students alike. This last semester, the foundation awarded a total of $9,048 in mini-grants as well as grants for a department, school or grade-level project(s).

Of the 61 applications received, 23 grants were awarded. In total, CCSF contributed nearly $58,000 in 2024 and more than $180,000 to students and educators since 2017.

The Fall 2025 mini-grant winners include the following alphabetically by school:

  • Katheryn Brown, Bordewich Bray School, $300 for a laminator, laminator sheets, colored paper, electric stapler, staples and brads for the Student Authored Library Project.
  • Donna Harker, Bordewich Bray Elementary School, $255 to purchase 6 stools, 1 cart to organize supplies for small group instruction.
  • Shelley Pope, Bordewich Bray School, $300 for Hand2Mind Advanced Phonics Word Work sets.
  • Teneya Cramer, Carson High School, $300 for lunch and snacks for Student Council students who come in on weekends and evenings to make posters for school events and the Nevada Association of Student Council State Conference.
  • Rochelle Kennedy, Carson High School, $300 to purchase filament for 3D printers.
  • Cassandra Mellow, Carson High School, $150 for snacks for late period online learning students.
  • Patrick Mobley, Carson High School, $100 for Spanish-language versions of material used during Night program.
  • Genevieve Morehouse, Carson High School, $300 for dissection supplies.
  • Jeff Morehouse, Carson High School, $300 for supplies to help students understand the conservation of mechanical energy.
  • Brenda Ramirez, Carson High School, $200 for supplies for Dia de los Muertos celebration.
  • Nicole McGranahan, Carson Middle School, $150 for durable water jugs for hydration, easy-up tents, a wagon and a mat to keep gear clean and organized.
  • Tiffany Rankin, Carson Middle School, $300 for new cameras for the yearbook team.
  • Briana Valley, Carson Middle School, $150 for dance ribbons, top hats and costume pieces for their costume inventory.
  • Jennifer Pavlik, Eagle Valley Middle School, $269 for high interest low readability books for students with low reading proficiency.
  • Isabel Manzano, Empire Elementary School, $200 for classroom headphones with microphones.
  • Laura Gardner, Empire Elementary School, $300 for flexible seating options including wobble stools, stability balls and floor cushions.
  • Muriel Maiden, Fremont Elementary School, $309 for a parachute for the P.E. program.
  • Irene Waltz, Fritsch Elementary School, $200 for snacks for filament for 3D printers.
  • Susan Roman, Fritsch Elementary School, $300 for a durable set of class headphones to support student learning, testing environments and independent work.
  • Denali Bell, Fritsch Elementary School, $300 for a mobile Art drying rack.
  • Taylor Mandelli, Seeliger Elementary School, $265 for ELA tools for the classroom teachers of the primary grades.

The Fall 2025 school or department grant winners include the following alphabetically by department, school or grade-level projects:

  • Sue Moulden, Carson High School Silver Campus, $750 for Silver Campus reimagined project.
  • Jeremy Batten, Carson Middle School, $1,500 for the school’s multicultural Fall Family Festival.
  • Amy Riddle, Eagle Valley Middle School, $550 for equipment and supplies for the “Growing Green Entrepreneurs” program.
  • Terri Shiffer, Fremont Elementary School, $1,000 for supplies for the Student and the Family Engagement program in College and Career Preparedness and STEAM career exploration – College and Career Fair and Family STEAM Night.

CCSF is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to promoting community involvement and investment in the public schools of Carson City. This project is one of the many results of the “Empower Carson City 2027″ Strategic Plan – a five-year strategic plan for extraordinary schools built by the community of Carson City.

CCSF was created to increase student achievement through philanthropic investment and involvement. Established by the Carson City School District’s Board of Trustees, the foundation promotes education programs that traditional funding sources may not be able to reach.
